Stephen Brady

President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Brady brings nearly 30 years of operational and board experience spanning corporate strategy, M&A, business development, and finance across public and private life sciences companies. Prior to joining Claris Bio, he served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Tempest Therapeutics. He previously served as Executive Vice President of Strategy and Finance at Immune Design, where he played a key role in the company’s IPO, financings, licensing transactions, and sale to Merck. Earlier in his career, he held progressively senior roles at multiple companies, including Vice President of Corporate Development at Proteolix, where he led the business development and strategic efforts that resulted in the company’s sale to Onyx Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Brady currently serves on the Board of Directors of Claris and the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO).

Clarke Atwell, MIBS

Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Atwell has almost 35 years experience as an international biopharmaceutical executive and board member with experience in company foundation, capital formation, and the licensing of products and technologie. Mr. Atwell was a co-founder of Lux Biosciences, Inc., conducting the first randomized controled trials in non-infectious uveitis. He was the first commercial officer at Enzon, leading the intergration of four acquired products across multiple disease areas and building the commercial team to over 80 professionals. While at Roche, Mr. Atwell lead the U.S. launch of CellCept® in solid organ transplantation with sales of over $1B. Prior to Roche, Mr. Atwell worked on the international lauches of Cozaar/Hyzaar® and Crixivan®.

Susan Orr, OD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Orr has more than 30 years of experience in ophthalmology and life sciences spanning board directorships, R&D leadership, corporate strategy, and patient care, including the past decade spent in executive roles. Prior to joining Claris Bio, Dr. Orr served as Chief Executive Officer of Notal Vision, the first company to commercialize an AI-enabled retinal diagnostic product, after initially joining the company as Chief Medical Officer. Earlier, she developed the therapeutic-area and pipeline strategy for Janssen’s emerging retina franchise. Dr. Orr previously held progressively senior global roles at Alcon and Novartis across pipeline and product strategy, business development and licensing, clinical development and pharmacology, and marketing. She began her career in private practice in Canada. Dr. Orr earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo.

Henry Rath

Chief Business Officer

Mr. Rath has been a business development professional in the biotech industry for over 25 years, working in both large and small companies and on both the buy-side and sell-side. He began his career in corporate finance at Oppenheimer & Co., where he participated in seventeen transactions spanning public offerings and acquisitions, before joining the L.E.K. Consulting biopharma team in Los Angeles. Mr. Rath then moved to Amgen, where he spent ten years on the business development team, forming and leading the company's international business development group in Switzerland and completing several significant acquisitions around the globe. Since leaving Amgen, Mr. Rath has served as Chief Business Officer for emerging biotech companies, completing multiple licensing deals with large pharmaceutical partners and helping lead a successful $150 million initial public offering. Overall, Mr. Rath has led transactions totaling over $3 billion in value. He earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and his M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Brian Baum

Chief Commercial Officer

Mr. Baum has over 20 years of program and lifecycle management, commercial strategy, marketing, market access, commercial operations, and specialty product launch experience in biopharma. Prior to Claris Bio, Mr. Baum served as Senior Vice President at Dompé Pharmaceuticals and led critical commercial initiatives that supported the successful U.S. launch and growth of Oxervate®, a recombinant human nerve growth factor approved in 2018 for neurotrophic keratitis, a rare and serious eye disease with no prior FDA-approved therapies. As a senior commercial leader, he played a key role in driving Oxervate®’s growth, with annual U.S. sales surpassing $1.1 billion in 2024. Prior to Dompé, Mr. Baum spent ten years at Genentech in a range of U.S. and global commercial leadership roles, including supporting the launch and commercialization of Lucentis® across three major retinal indications: wAMD, RVO, and DME. Mr. Baum holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A. from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University.

Tomi Luan, OD PhD

Senior Vice President Clinical Development

Dr. Luan has more than more than 20 years of industry experience spanning startups to established industry leaders, bringing extensive experience in clinical strategy, trial design and execution, regulatory support, medical affairs, and cross-functional leadership in ophthalmology, from early development through registration. Dr. Luan has held leadership roles at Johnson & Johnson, Alcon, Bausch + Lomb, and Glaukos, and has a longstanding commitment to improving patient outcomes through the advancement of innovative therapies.

Piotr Bryla, PhD

Senior Vice President of CMC

Dr. Bryla has over 35 years of CMC and CMC regulatory experience in pharmaceuticals, biologics, and devices across all phases of drug product development. This includes the last 20 years spent in the ophthalmology space, where he led CMC to successful approval of Dexycu® for the treatment of postoperative inflammation. Dr. Bryla is the author of more than 30 publications in scientific literature and presentations.
